2010 Training
In light of the continuing economic downturn, restrictions on travel and funding have made it difficult for many disability services providers to obtain professional development training this year. As a result, AHEAD NR purchased two AHEAD audio conference sessions and provided them to its members as a complimentary membership benefit.
2009 Conference
Jayme Johnson, an expert on Assistive Technology and an instructor at the High Tech Center Training Unit (HTCTU) of the California Community College, was the feature speaker for the AHEAD NR annual conference on May 19-20, 2009 at Montana State University Billings. He provided practical applications regarding assistive technology, alternate media creation and web accessibility in the higher education settings.
2008 Conference
AHEAD NR conducted its second annual business meeting and conference on May 20, 2008. Twenty-two people attended the conference, which was held at Montana Tech in Butte.
They keynote speaker was Barbara Blacklock from the University of Minnesota, who addressed access for college students with psychiatric disabilities. Her keynote address was followed by a working lunch which included reports from the President, Cindy Yarberry; President-elect, Amy Capolupo; Treasurer, Brenda York; and Secretary, Trudy Carey. Mika Watanabe-Taylor was introduced as the new President-elect. Brenda York will serve a second term as Treasurer.
A question and answer period facilitated by Barbara Blacklock included discussion about issues and accommodations relevant to students with psychiatric disabilities and was followed by a presentation by Brenda York on disability issues faced by returning veterans.
2007 Conference
AHEAD NR held its first annual conference on May 22, 2007 at Montana State University-Great Falls College of Technology. The keynote speaker Richard Harris addressed the history of Disability Services in higher education and the management of multiple and varied job responsibilities as a Disability Services provider. Mary Morrison, PEP-Net and Cindy Yarberry, University of Montana-Helena College of Technology, addressed video remote interpreting.
