Position Summary

The Program Manager - Association Communications is the primary staff position responsible for the management and implementation of internal and external communication initiatives for the Association.

Key Responsibilities

• The management and implementation of editing, design, layout, production, and dissemination of collateral materials in support of the Association’s internal and external communication functions.
• The development and implementation of public relations activities on behalf of the Association.
• The management and implementation of production and distribution of Association publications including resource materials and a quarterly scholarly journal.
• Provide oversight to and support for informational maintenance on the Association’s website.
• Participate in the planning and execution of the Association’s annual conference with particular emphasis on printed and electronic communication functions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Strong and refined written and inter-personal communication skills

The successful candidate will possess a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, special education, psychology, higher education administration, or a related field; a PhD in a related field is preferred. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of six years of related professional experience and a working knowledge of and experience with legislation and practice concerning disabilities including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The successful candidate must have progressive responsibility for supervising and evaluating staff, resolving conflicts, building a team, and working with a diverse group of employees. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated knowledge of higher educational disabilities services and the ability to apply the broad vision of the institution, including its goals and objectives, to all aspects of decisions; and exceptional communication skills (both written and oral) including the ability to facilitate open discussions and write clear and concise reports. Position Purpose
The Program Coordinator of Student Disability Services (SDS) is responsible for coordinating services and programs to USF students with disabilities. The Program Coordinator serves as the disability specialist for USF students with disabilities, interprets disability documentation to determine appropriate academic accommodations for students, manages student caseload, provides academic and study-skills assistance to students with disabilities, supervises student assistants, and provides additional advising and disability documentation for all licensing and graduate school admissions tests, (e.g. LSAT, GMAT, GRE, MCAT, MSAT, CA Nursing Boards, etc.). The Program Coordinator reports to the Director of SDS and is a member of the Academic Support Services team.

Essential Job Responsibilities
1. Consistent with University policy and state and federal guidelines, including ADA and Section 504 regulations, arranges for the provision of appropriate and reasonable
accommodations through the SDS intake and eligibility process to facilitate student access to University programs, services, and activities

2. Evaluates psycho-educational assessments, medical and other disability documentation to determine eligibility status

3. Coordinates all testing accommodations for students with disabilities, including hiring and supervising proctors, reserving rooms, creating and maintaining testing files, supervises all proctored exams in the office and maintains test files and security

4. Performs screening and psycho-educational evaluations using various psycho-educational assessment instruments

5. Provides academic counseling, guidance, and advising to students with disabilities.
Works one-on-one with students with disabilities to provide study skills training, disability awareness, coaching, and disability management strategies.

Coordinates program evaluations and statistical record keeping, specifically: devises and evaluates methods and procedures for collecting data (such as surveys, opinion polls, or questionnaires), or arranges to obtain existing data; collect and analyze data on student demographics, needs, and accommodations to measure effectiveness of SDS program

10. Conducts research in collaboration with faculty and other staff members to improve student retention, academic success and graduation

11. Educates the University community on postsecondary disability service issues and disability awareness topics through faculty trainings, workshops, and arranging for guest speakers

12. Collaborates with other SDS colleagues in development and implementation of student outreach programs such as Disability Awareness Week

13. Teaches College Success and Critical Thinking Courses; designs and implements new course curriculum as appropriate, designs course evaluations and assessments and advises and counsels enrolled students

14. Assists Academic Support Services colleagues in planning and facilitating the University's New Student Orientation and USF's Graduation programs

15. Assists the SDS Director, Assistant Director, and other Academic Support Services staff with office operations as needed; including hiring and supervising student assistants and SDS tutors and note takers

16. Represents SDS office at school/college events on campus and at regional campuses; represents the University at workshops presented to student, parents and others

17. Serves as a resource to other staff, students, and alumni in interpreting policies and procedures relating to SDS services and programs

18. Attends professional conferences and training

19. Assists the Director and Assistant Director with all day-to-day office functions

20. Performs other duties as assigned

Accountabilities

Requirements (knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience)
1. A Master's Degree in counseling, education, social work, rehabilitation administration, or other related field required

2. Three to five years experience working with college students with disabilities strongly preferred

3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently with diverse colleagues and students and the wider community

4. Experience reviewing and evaluating psycho-educational assessments, medical, and other disability documentation to determine eligibility and appropriate reasonable accommodations preferred

5. Extensive knowledge of the ADA is required

Responsible for providing information, assessment, and training on Assistive Technology (AT). Plan, lead, and implement University-wide projects that promote and enable greater use of AT. You will also be responsible for the acquisition and management of AT-related grants, design and delivery of University-wide AT training/awareness programs, individualized guidance and expertise on AT resources and facilities, and design and content for the Division of Disability Resources Web site.

Master's degree, 2 or more years of experience in the field of Assistive Technology, and CSUN ATACP certification/similar certification in Assistive Technology required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Comprehensive knowledge of AT and its utilization for University students with a disability and experience installing, maintaining, and updating assistive technology applications are essential.

Assistant Director, Services for Students with Disabilities

Responsibilities:
• Conduct intake interviews and interpreting psycho-educational tests to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations and services for students with disabilities
• Work with faculty, staff, and related professionals to interpret federal disability legislation related to accommodations and services
• Develop guidelines and procedures related to the provision of accommodation services
• Provide individual and small group instruction to students on study strategies, time management, problem solving, and organizational skills as well as disability related counseling
• Conduct workshops and make presentations to the Virginia Tech community and the general public on disability issues and legal mandates.

Requirements:
• Minimum of a Master’s Degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, special education, or related field with demonstrated experience working with students with disabilities
• Demonstrated experience conducting intake interviews and interpreting psycho-educational tests to determine accommodations and services
• Full understanding of federal regulations including Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act and able to translate these regulations for a lay audience
• Must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, parents, and the community
• Demonstrated experience in crisis intervention counseling
• Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of students of differing academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds and sexual orientation
• Computer skills required include word processing, email, internet, and basic spreadsheet skills

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience providing individual and small group instruction to students on study skills, and self-advocacy issues and personal counseling
• Ability to develop assessment survey instruments
• Experience with databases, statistical software (SPSS), and publications
• Experience in a higher education setting
