BCCC is seeking a contractual Sign Language Interpreter and Coordinator of Note-taking to serve deaf/hard of hearing students using American Sign Language or other manual sign system in classrooms and lecture halls, during films, counseling and tutoring sessions, school related meetings, campus events and as needed for urgent situations. This position also has the additional responsibility of coordinating and scheduling note-taking accommodation services. The minimum requirements are: Completion of an accredited interpreter training program or equivalent, three years experience as a sign language interpreter, work experience in an educational setting and related scheduling experience preferred. General Summary: The Assistant Vice President for NTID Student Services (AVPSS) provides leadership, direction, and oversight for student and academic services through nine functional areas comprising the unit. In collaboration with other divisions of the college and university, particularly with RIT Student Affairs, the AVPSS promotes a seamless delivery of services to over 1,500 deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing students. As a key member of the NTID Administrative Council, the Assistant Vice President will help shape institutional vision and set direction, translate institutional goals into measurable objectives, assign activities to department POWs , and evaluate programmatic efforts to enhance student success. The AVPSS will report to the NTID Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs to ensure that students are receiving appropriate academic support services through collaboration among faculty and staff in Academic Affairs and Student and Academic Services. Working closely with the RIT Vice President for Student Affairs, the AVPSS also will work to ensure that NTID students' needs are represented and shape the college's response to institutional initiatives. The AVPSS serves as the college's liaison to the RIT Disability Services Office. In addition, the AVPSS will serve as the college coordinator for the Student Crisis Response System and be the primary facilitator/coordinator for NTID's student retention efforts. The AVPSS will identify and analyze current higher education and special education trends to inform the Administrative team of strategic opportunities to respond to changes in the NTID student body. On an ongoing basis, the Assistant Vice President will work with units to evaluate and ensure the delivery of programs and services, and initiate the implementation of appropriate cost saving measures.
Major Responsibilities: The Assistant Vice President for NTID Student Services is primarily responsible for managing and supervising the following functional areas and will provide overall leadership and stewardship for:
- Counseling and Academic Advising Services
- First Year Experiences / SVP / Retention
- NTID Learning Consortium

- Representation of the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs as appropriate on selected NTID and RIT task forces and committees.
- Service as Liaison with the NTID Student Congress and other NTID student organizations.
- Coordination of the VP and NTID Student Leadership Advisory Group

- Oversight of NTID Psychological Services at the RIT Counseling Center in collaboration with director of counseling center as well as NTID Clinical Supervisor and Center counselors working with deaf students.
- Service as Member of the Student Behavioral Consultation Team (or designate)
- Coordination of NTID's minority student retention efforts, working with the Special Assistant to the President for Diversity.
- Coordination of the GeneSIS Project (PeopleSoft) for NTID in collaboration with both Academic Affairs and College Operations.
Measures of Scope of Position:
- Provides leadership to 9 faculty and 32 staff;
- Controls an operating budget of approximately $3,000,000.
Education:
Doctoral degree in Higher Education, Adult Education, Special Education, Student Personnel, Counseling or related discipline strongly preferred. Master's degree in one of these fields required.
Experience:
Eight to 10 years of executive administrative experience strongly preferred. Three to five years of administrative experience required.
Skills of the Position:
Possess leadership and supervisory skills that foster shared governance, collaboration, effective teamwork, and positive impact on student learning. Highly developed communication skills (written, signed (ASL) and presentation) and organizational skills related to program/policy development and management. Excellent interpersonal skills, sensitivity to student needs and ability to relate well to student, faculty, staff, and administration. Strong understanding of, and tangible commitment to multiculturalism and diversity. Experience in budgeting, personnel supervision and evaluation, and fiscal management.

Neuropsychiatry Research Training Program
The focus of the Neuropsychiatry Research Training Program is to integrate basic and clinical neuroscience research in a cohesive effort to elucidate neural substrates of schizophrenia. Converging multidisciplinary approaches by collaborating laboratories at the University of Pennsylvania aim to contribute a new understanding of the symptoms, pathophysiology and etiology of schizophrenia.
Research opportunities in animals and humans include the integration of neurobehavioral measures - cognition, emotion, olfaction - with neuroimaging, electrophysiological, cellular and molecular neuropathological measures. Genetic paradigms are pursued in examining endophenotypic markers and relevant disorders. A developmental perspective is an emphasis in human and animal studies. JOB DESCRIPTION:
The New Community College at CUNY seeks dynamic, entrepreneurial and student centered specialists to become Student Success Advocates supporting student's academic, professional and personal success and persistence from recruitment through graduation. Reporting to the Director of Student Engagement, the Student Success Advocates will be responsible for supporting the success of incoming and first-year students. Starting with the Summer Bridge Program and First Year Experience, s/he will serve as a member of one or more instructional teams working closely with faculty members to identify, assess, and develop matriculated students' academic and personal competencies needed for success in college and a career. Specific responsibilities during the first-year include: facilitating weekly group advisement sessions for several cohorts; meeting with instructional team members to plan activities and monitor student progress; conducting proactive advisement for students at risk of dropping or stopping out; advising on courses, transfers, early career choices, academic standing and other policies; and facilitating registration and continuous enrollment. Prior to students' matriculation, the Student Success Advocates will work with the Office of Admissions and Access to help prospective students understand the College's educational model and facilitate their enrollment. Admissions duties include: presenting at high schools, community based organizations, and other appropriate venues to inform external stakeholders about the College; conducting group and information sessions for students and caregivers; visiting high schools and community based organizations; presenting to professionals such as counselors, teachers and coaches; and advising students on their academic and career goals and how they can be achieved.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Master's degree in an appropriate discipline (e.g., Counseling, Guidance, Social Work, or Psychology) and two (2) years related experience required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three or more years of counseling, academic and/or career advising/student development experience with diverse student populations, particularly underprepared high school or college students in an educational setting or program preferred
- Crisis management experience strongly preferred
- Experience working in learning communities preferred
- Multi-lingual ability with strong presentation, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to successfully work with and present to diverse audiences
- Experience working well with linguistically, culturally and academically diverse students
- Strong work ethic, character and personal integrity, and ability to work with the utmost professionalism, discretion and confidentiality

Assistant Director of the Academic Learning Center
Responsibilities: The Assistant Director reports to the Assistant Dean/Director of the ALC and works with the Director to provide disability services and academic support by serving as a resource for students, faculty, and campus administrators.
Disability Services coordination involves assisting the Director with reviewing documentation and determining reasonable accommodations based on guidelines from the Americans with Disabilities Act, ADA Amendments, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act; engaging in an interactive process with students, their professors, and necessary administrators as needed to ensure the timely implementation of approved accommodations; and directly coordinating various processes for classroom and exam accommodations. This role will serve as an information source to the College community regarding academic accessibility issues and provide academic counseling and coaching to students with disabilities as needed to maximize student success.
Responsibilities also include serving as an academic coach to students by providing direct instruction on academic skills and learning strategies on a regular basis, assisting with academic workshops for students on topics such as reading strategies, study skills, test taking, time management, note taking, and other fundamental academic skills, and referring these academically at risk students to various campus resources. The position involves tracking the academic progress of the assigned student caseload, generating reports on student success and retention and on disability services, as well as collaborating with faculty and other administrators on student matters.
Requirements: A Master's degree in the area of Psychology, Counseling, Education or related field and at least 3 years of experience providing disability services is required, as is experience providing academic skills instruction to students. Awareness of federal and state laws that guide the process of providing accommodations to post-secondary students with disabilities, experience implementing academic accommodations for documented disabilities, and strong interpersonal, judgment, and communications skills are required.
Qualifications: Previous experience working in a college learning center or academic services center and with a diverse group of students is desirable. Knowledge of assistive technology aids and experience interpreting documentation is preferred. Experience implementing learning strategies and teaching modalities for individual instruction is desired, along with an ability to engage with a wide variety of students, parents and professionals on and off campus. Proficiency with computers is needed, which includes a working knowledge of database management and reporting functions, as well as using MS Office Programs. The ability to function independently and as part of a small professional team is a must, as is the ability to respond with diplomacy and good judgment.
