AHEAD audioconference workshops

Recognizing the need by professionals in higher education to access top-quality learning opportunities that are affordable and easily accessible; AHEAD is proud to offer our second year of teleconference-based professional development -- AHEAD to you! utilizing a new, state-of-the-art teleconference system.

A very special offering of three, engaging audioconference presentations, readings, and interaction beginning on April 12.

Talk of the Profession: Infinite Intersections

If you would like to be part of “the conversation” then consider turning to “Talk of the Profession,” AHEAD’s audio roundtable discussion series.

Sue Kroeger, from the University of Arizona, and AHEAD Past President, will lead three lively and productive exchanges of ideas and opinions on the issues that dominate higher education and disability.

Dr. Kroeger is a former AHEAD Board member and Past President. She has been the ADA/504 Compliance Officer and Director of the Disability Resource Center at the University of Arizona since 1999. Prior to that she directed the DSS program at the University of Minnesota from 1985 to 1999 and has an extensive history in the rehabilitation field. She has served as adjunct faculty, and principal investigator for several federal grants and has consulted nationally and internationally. She is a well known for her presentations on the infusion of the socio-political model of disability, and the use of Universal Design, in higher education.

From compliance to universal design, disability studies, accommodations, and service delivery “Talk of the Profession” will offer participants opportunities to call in and join enlightening discussions with leaders in the field. Access to accompanying readings will be available online to stimulate your thinking and participation in the discussions.

Session One: April 12th – AHEAD Past Presidents.
Seasoned practitioners and AHEAD members take a look at the Disability Services profession with fresh eyes.
Have we been on the right track?
Where have we succeeded in our work and what needs to change to make us more effective on our campuses?

Session Two: April 26th – Confronting Legal Issues.
This session explores a new take on the application of case law to Disability Services by injecting new concepts of disability and universal design.

Session Three: May 10th – Disability Studies Scholars.
Many busy Disability Service professionals simply don’t have time for in-depth scholarly research of disability topics, but past and current theories do inform how we influence institutional attitudes and provide day to day service. This session will explore the potential alliances between disability studies and the service professions.

Each audioconference session runs for 90 minutes from 3:00 – 4:30 pm ET. Calling information and access information will be sent to registrants at least one week before the series begins.

Differing from other AHEADtoYOU offerings (see below), this course is a three-session audioconference event with readings, handouts, and real time captioning being provided online and does not offer registration for single sessions.

Tuition for this series of events is:
US$199.00 for AHEAD Members, and US$279 for non-members.
