Scholarships

AHEAD Member Scholarship for Advanced Academic Study

AHEAD offers a member scholarship for advanced study each year. The scholarship is funded from fund-raising efforts, especially from the conference Silent Auction. Applications are generally available in the fall of the year, with a deadline in the late fall. Awards are made in early spring and applied to spring funds. Additional information and the application form will be posted to this site when this year’s materials are ready.

Eligibility

  • Employment (at least half time) in a profession directly related to disability in postsecondary education in a postsecondary institution
  • Member of AHEAD for at least one year prior to the time of application (any break in membership cannot exceed one month in duration)
  • Formal acceptance to, or enrollment in, an advanced degree program (MA, PhD, Ed.D) that would enhance knowledge and skills related to disability services in a postsecondary setting (disability studies, rehabilitation, special education, assistive technology, etc.)
  • Minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for continuing students

Criteria for Award

The Selection Committee will make award decisions based on the following selection criteria:

  • Professional service to and involvement with International AHEAD
  • Professional service to and involvement with a local AHEAD Affiliate
  • Campus and community leadership and service
  • Disability-related leadership and service on campus and within the local community
  • Preference may be given to members proposing to conduct research pertinent to the delivery of services in a postsecondary institution of higher education.

  • Personal statement
  • Two letters of support

AHEAD Scholarships for Students with Disabilities

When this year’s scholarship is announced, the application form and more information will be available at this site.

AHEAD offers two students scholarships each academic year: one for undergraduate students and one for graduate students. Each scholarship carries an award of $1,000. The scholarships are competitive and require nomination by an AHEAD member. The application deadline changes, but is generally in mid to late-fall, with the award made in January and applied to the student’s spring term funds. Scholarship dollars are funded through fund-raising, especially from the conference Silent Auction.

Eligibility

  • Enrollment in a postsecondary institution during the award period
  • Registration for a minimum of six (6) credit hours per quarter/semester
  • Undergraduate or graduate status: one award will be made to an undergraduate student and one award to a graduate student
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Nomination by an AHEAD member (Each AHEAD member may nominate only one undergraduate and one graduate student.)

  • Well-articulated goals
