University-Wide Licensing of Assistive Technologies for Students with Disabilities: A National Model

Wednesday, April 11, 2018, from 3 - 4 pm ET

About This Webinar:  The City University of New York (CUNY), is rapidly embracing innovative strategies to increase access to its programs and offerings and in CUNY Chancellor Milliken's words: "We have to develop pathways for students to reenter and succeed in college." With the support of the University's senior leadership, and with funding from the IT Steering Committee's Strategic Technology Initiative, all current and future CUNY students with disabilities will now have the assistive technology software tools to gain greater access and academic support.

In a first effort of its kind in the United States, and in partnership with assistive technology vendor VFO Group, CUNY is deploying University wide licensing of key assistive technology software for all CUNY students and staff with visual and learning disabilities. This decision will make CUNY's programs and services even more accessible.

Full access for students and staff with disabilities entails making the University's content and services accessible or providing the tools to do so. Through the use of key assistive technologies, including screen readers, optical character recognition, screen enlargers and reading and writing software suites, students with physical and learning disabilities can be accommodated and given the tools to access CUNY's educational programs and services.
