AHEAD Scholarship Opportunities

AHEAD offers two scholarship opportunities:

One for AHEAD Members and another for Students with Disabilities!

Advanced Academic Study for AHEAD Members

Eligibility
  • Employment (at least half time) in a profession directly related to disability in postsecondary education in a postsecondary institution
  • Member of AHEAD for at least one year prior to the time of application (any break in membership cannot exceed one month in duration)
  • Formal acceptance to, or enrollment in, an advanced degree program (MA, PhD, Ed.D) that would enhance knowledge and skills related to disability services in a postsecondary setting (disability studies, rehabilitation, special education, assistive technology, etc.)
  • Minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for continuing students
Criteria for Award
The Selection Committee will make award decisions based on the following selection criteria:

  • Professional service to and involvement with International AHEAD
  • Professional service to and involvement with a local AHEAD Affiliate
  • Campus and community leadership and service
  • Disability-related leadership and service on campus and within the local community
  • Preference may be given to members proposing to conduct research pertinent to the delivery of services in a postsecondary institution of higher education.
Students with Disabilities

Eligibility
  • Enrollment in a postsecondary institution during the award period
  • Registration for a minimum of six (6) credit hours per quarter/semester
  • Undergraduate or graduate status: one award will be made to an undergraduate student and one award to a graduate student
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Nomination by an AHEAD member (Each AHEAD member may nominate only one undergraduate and one graduate student.)
Criteria for Award
The Selection Committee will make award decisions based on the following selection criteria:
  • Disability-related leadership and service
  • Academic achievement
  • Well-articulated goals
