Along with our colleagues at Think College, AHEAD is excited to offer a

MINI-CONFERENCE on Students with Intellectual
Disabilities in Higher Education

Wednesday, July 13th

This year’s conference offers a targeted strand of concurrent presentations focused on the growing area of college opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities (ID).

Consider joining national experts and your colleagues for one or more of these presentations that will focus on this emerging area of practice, highlighting the importance of true understanding and collaboration between traditional disability services offices and campus programs that offer resources and experiences for students with intellectual disabilities:

  • Session #1.5, Wednesday 9:00-11:00 - Equity and Access: Illuminating the Pathways for Students with Intellectual Disabilities
  • Session #2.5, Wednesday 11:30-12:30 - Expanding your Toolkit: using AT to decrease barriers for students with intellectual disabilities
  • Session #3.5, Wednesday 2:00-3:00 - Effective Collaborations between Disability Services and Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities in Indiana

As increasing numbers of colleges and universities have or consider offering opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities as a result of the changes to the Higher Education Act in 2008, it is important that disability resource staff dedicated to reducing barriers for all students understand the role they can play in facilitating access for students with intellectual disabilities. These sessions will illuminate the roles of the disability resource staff and the staff of the ID program, highlighting the many ways in which responsibilities intersect, the points at which they diverge, and how to maximize understanding and collaboration.
