Utah AHEAD Bylaws

Utah AHEAD is a statewide organization of diverse individuals committed to the full participation in higher education for persons with disabilities. Utah AHEAD is a vital resource, promoting excellence and accessibility through education, training, and communication, and shares the mission and goals of the national AHEAD organization.


Membership shall be open to those persons or institutions who are directly engaged in the administration, the provision of services and accommodations, or the general operation of programs designed to provide services and accommodations which will enhance post-secondary educational opportunities for students with disabilities. Membership dues shall be assessed and collected in such an amount and such manner as prescribed by the Association. Each member, not just each institution, shall be entitled to one vote on any matter submitted to vote.

Officers Elections

Elections shall be held annually for executive officers and as needed to fill vacancies. Officers may serve more than one term. Vacancies may be filled by consensus of the Executive Board. Temporary appointees serve until the next regularly scheduled election.


The Utah AHEAD President shall be the principal executive officer of the organization, and shall in general supervise and control all of the business and affairs of the organization. He/She shall call and preside at the meetings of the members. The president shall monitor association business and legal issues. The president shall name such committees as may be needed to conduct the activities of the Association.

Vice President

The Vice President shall, in the absence of, or in the event of an inability or refusal to act on the part of the President, perform the duties of the President, without prejudice to his or her subsequent term of office. The Vice President shall be from a different institution than the president.


The Treasurer shall serve as the financial officer for Utah AHEAD. He/She will receive, have charge and custody of, and account for all income generated from organization activities, including membership dues; deposit such moneys in the name of the organization in such banks, trust companies, or other depositories as shall from time to time be selected; disburse all funds for the organization under policies approved by the members; keep adequate and appropriate records of receipts and disbursements; maintain financial records as legally required for non-profit organizations in the State of Utah report income and expenditures at each annual business meeting of the membership at large, and ensure that the organization receives and maintains its eligibility for non-profit, tax-exempt status. The association fiscal year shall be from July1 to June30.


The secretary shall serve as the communication and archives coordinator and maintain the association membership list.


Association income shall be derived from annual dues, gifts, contributions, grants, and any other sources that are approved by the president. The treasurer shall be authorized to disburse funds upon the approval of the executive board. The books of the association shall be submitted to audit and review as required by Utah State Laws for non-profit organizations.


Members of the executive board shall meet as needed and at the discretion of the president. Meetings of the membership at large will be held once a year with opportunities for additional meetings for various activities or events sponsored by the association. Every attempt will be made to schedule these meetings at host schools throughout Utah. Association action may be taken through email with executive board approval and a simple majority of the membership voting.

Dissolution Clause

The organization may be dissolved at any time by the written consent of a majority of the voting members in good standing at the time of the dissolution. After payment of all debts and liabilities of the organization, its property and assets shall be donated to other organizations or causes to be voted upon by the majority of the members.
