Come Meet the Profession at the
28th Annual AHEAD Conference and Exhibit Hall
in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
August 2 - 6, 2005

Located on beautiful Lake Michigan, Milwaukee sparkles during the summer! The origin of the name “Milwaukee” is said to come from a Pottawatomie Indian word meaning “gathering or meeting place of rivers.” Just as three rivers and the lake come together at Milwaukee, our Conference program converges on three areas of interest to our profession:

  • Education (professional training) – fundamental information that you need to know that prepares and re-energizes you to do your job,
  • Service (delivery) – current, emerging and cutting-edge practices that improve access for students, and
  • Research – current inquiry that brings together critical information about methods, practices and profession.

When not participating in Conference activities, you are offered a multitude of “Milwaukee” ways to occupy your time. Here is just a sampling of what awaits you:

  • The Milwaukee Art Museum, with it’s stunning award-winning movable sun screen, the Brise Soleil (wings), designed by world-renowned Santiago Calatrava
  • State-of-the-art Miller Park Baseball Stadium with a TGIF’s overlooking the field
  • Milwaukee Public Museum with features varying from “The Streets of Old Milwaukee” to the Humphrey I-Max Theatre and Discovery World to a glass-enclosed butterfly wing
  • Strolls along Lake Michigan (where you can fly a kite, rollerblade, bike or power a paddle boat) and the Milwaukee River boardwalks
  • Shopping in the downtown Grand Avenue Mall
  • Free music venues in downtown parks: “Jazz in the Park” & “River Rhythms”
  • Historic Third Ward Jazz Festival
  • African World Fest located on the world-famous Summerfest grounds
  • Wisconsin State Fair
  • Milwaukee County Zoo
  • Brew pubs and brewery tours offered by local brewers

We look forward to meeting you in Milwaukee, A Great Place by a Great Lake!
