Back by popular demand, AHEAD’s Technology Standing Committee has designed a series to help us look at technology used by students to mitigate barriers, while sharing best practices in areas where technology and disability in higher education intersect.

We’ve identified three broad themes to help you choose, but you can attend any – and all – of our sessions!

Equipment Loaner Program Management

Campus AT loaner programs are a great way to expose students to technologies that can help them in college, while addressing barriers in the environment. Examples of common equipment that institutions are lending include Livescribe pens, laptops, tablets, FM systems. DS, libraries and other departments want to offer this service, but often don’t know how to start setting up and managing equipment loaner programs.  What are common concepts, effective strategies and best practices in this area? Making Math More Accessible: The WeBWorK Math Homework Management System

WeBWorK is an open-source online homework system for math and sciences courses used by more than 800 institutions across the country.  Join this unique opportunity to hear a panel of faculty who have investigated, assessed and are using WebWork, and are enthusiastic about its accessibility, and the pedagogical elements that attracted them in the first place, as well as positive benefits for the student body at large. Shifting from a Paper-based to an Electronic Records System

Campus maps are one of the first online stops for visitors, families, and potential and current students. More often than not the maps are inaccessible or awkward to use. Our hosts moderate a discussion by panelists with various approaches to making these essential campus tools more accessible and welcoming. Your Admissions and Visitor Services staff will be sure to find this session helpful. (C)
