Letter from AHEAD President: Jamie Axelrod

Dear Friends and Esteemed Colleagues,

I hope you are all doing well as another academic year is winding down. I know that this is an incredibly busy time of year for everyone, but I hope you will have a chance to check out all of great articles in this issue. With my term as President winding down, I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your commitment to access in education. It has been my honor to serve as President of AHEAD and I hope that during my time the organization has been able to meet your professional development needs and represent your interests on a national level. Our membership has continued to grow, and we are constantly trying to provide the community with quality programs and resources. I am confident that with your commitment and effort access to educational opportunities will continue to grow and improve for individuals with disabilities.

At the start of the year, AHEAD launched a redesigned website with lots of new features. I hope that you have had an opportunity to explore the site and take advantage of its new, more intuitive, user-friendly layout. I also hope you’ll create a profile and establish connections through the online communities available for members only.

Finally, we have just concluded our process of receiving nominations for positions on AHEAD’s Board of Directors. This year we started to revise the nomination and election process. This year’s nominees will be completing a questionnaire designed to help members select the most highly qualified candidates. I encourage you to review that information and help us populate the board with members who you believe can help the organization fulfill its mission and vision. And of course, when the time comes, please exercise your right to vote.

Thank you all for your contributions as part AHEAD and I hope to see you in Atlanta for “The Next Chapter” or in Albuquerque for “Equity and Excellence: Access in Higher Education.” If you do see me at one of these events be sure to say hello!
